Luke Dorris Biography
Luke Dorris is an American meteorologist who is currently serving as Chief Meteorologist for WPLG, the ABC affiliate in Miami. However, in 2017, he joined the Local 10 Weather Authority just in time for Hurricane Irma. He started with Channel 8 Eyewitness News as a morning and noon meteorologist before becoming Chief Meteorologist for Channel 8 KLKN-TV.

Dorris entered the school to contemplate vehicle production and found low-maintenance jobs at the larger appropriation delivery center, where he worked on a forklift to stack brewing trucks during classes. He worked an especially slumbering summer night in the storeroom as the wind swept in and began to pour, at which point it was too hard for the cars from the surrounding state to disintegrate into the parking area to wait out the storm. The aluminum-sided distribution center made an awful squeak, and then it blew down a little. Luke believed he was struck by a storm but later learned that it was a “microburst” or a severe straight-line twist faster than 90 mph. Luke, fascinated as much as he was afraid, went to the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelor of Meteorology Science degree and followed a few storms while he could.
He was also fortunate enough to study with Gary England, Michael Armstrong, and the environment group at KWTV in Oklahoma City. (In the event that you watched the opening scene of the “Twister” series, watch Gary on the TV in the old farmhouse at that moment. He’s an exceptional guy, Luke says).
