Major Garrett Biography
Major Garrett is an American journalist who is currently working as a chief correspondent for CBS News. He is also the host of The Takeout podcast and was a correspondent for National Journal. Major comes to CBS News from FOX News where he was the senior White House correspondent. Some of his accomplishments are covering the 2004 presidential election, the War on Terror, and the 2008 presidential election.
Born in San Diego, he attended and graduated from James Madison High School. Later on, he attended the University of Missouri where he graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism and a Bachelor of Science in political science in 1984. Currently, he is a member of Phi Gamma Delta.
He was a senior editor and congressional correspondent for the United States News & World Report before joining CNN. He joined CNN as a white house correspondent in early 2000. Later in 2002, he joined Fox News as a general assignment reporter. While there, he covered the 2004 election among many other stories.
On January 13, 2009, he became the senior White House Correspondent for Fox News. However, he left the station on September 3, 2010, to join National Journal. On November 18, 2012, it was announced that he would be joining CBS News as a Chief White House Correspondent. Later in December 2018, he was made Chief Washington Correspondent. He currently hosts a weekly podcast “The Takeout”.
