Marie Harf is a liberal political commentator for the Fox News Channel. She is well-known as a journalist who worked as a Deputy Spokesperson and acting spokesperson at the State Department. She began her career as an examiner at the CIA’s Directorate of Intelligence where she had to concentrate on Middle Eastern administration issues. Later, she was promoted to media representative of the CIA.
Additionally, she served as campaign spokesperson on national security issues during the 2012 presidential elections. In April 2015, Bloomberg News reported that Harf was to be replaced by retiring US Navy Rear Admiral John Kirby who had also interviewed for the position. However, he had beaten out Harf in 2013 for the spokesperson position at the US Department of Defense under Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel. Therefore, he retained the Pentagon position under a serving and experienced military public affairs officer versus a civilian political appointee.
