Mark McGhee Biography
Mark McGhee is a Scottish former professional football player and coach, who is currently the manager of Dundee. Mark started his career at Greenock Morton in 1975 and had spells at clubs including Newcastle United, Aberdeen, Celtic, Hamburg, Reading, and IK Brage.
McGhee was a member of the Aberdeen team that won the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in 1983, as well as three Scottish league titles. Since then, McGhee has managed clubs in both England and Scotland, including Reading, Millwall, Aberdeen, and Brighton & Hove Albion.
McGhee went on to win another league title in 1984, as well as a hat-trick of Scottish Cup victories from 1982 to 1984. He was also a member of the Aberdeen team that defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in the European Cup Winners’ Cup final in 1983, with his left-wing cross setting up John Hewitt to score the game-winning goal.
The following season, McGhee won the European Super Cup, scoring against Hamburg in the second leg at Pittodrie. He also won the Scottish PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 1982 while at Aberdeen.
