Mark Stacey Biography
Mark Stacey is a veteran Welch valuer, television personality, and auctioneer best known for his regular appearances on BBC programs as an antique expert. He has made regular appearances as an antique expert on BBC programs Bargain Hunt, Flog It!, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, and Antiques Road Trip. Prior to joining the antique trade, Mark worked as a residential social worker, initially as a dealer before working with several auction houses.
Born in Neath, Glamorgan, South Wales, Mark moved to London and worked for the Bonhams and Sotheby’s auction houses. He later became head of Decorative Arts and later Director of Hamptons//Dreweatt Neate Fine Art.
In 2011, Mark opened an antique shop in Kemptown, Brighton, East Sussex. Later in 2014, he became an auctioneer and valuer with Reeman Dansie auctioneers in Colchester, Essex. Stacey found an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus, propped up in an Essex house, and sold it for £13,500.
In June 2009, Mark took part in a light-hearted interview on BBC lunchtime program The Daily Politics where he was asked for advice about the value of items owned by famous people, in the wake of the UK Parliament’s expenses scandal.
Stacey has authored a number of books including Visual Intelligence (2013), World War II Vichy French Security Troops, and Dragon Rampant: Fantasy Wargaming Rules among others.
