Max Bretos Biography
Max Bretos is an American journalist who is currently working as a sports reporter, and sports announcer and is the play-by-play announcer for Los Angeles FC. Prior to this, he hosted ESPN Major League Soccer and SportsCenter for ESPN. He was also the lead announcer for Fox Soccer from 2003 to 2010.
Bretos attended the Judith Weston Acting Studio in Los Angeles, California. Formally, he played for Santa Monica Rugby Club. Later on, he earned a degree in international relations from Florida State University in 1994.
Bretos worked for Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports World from 1953 to 2009. He was the voice of the first English language, a 24-hour international sports channel. While there, he also worked for Sky Sports in the United Kingdom from 2003 to 2006. He also worked at the WWE Company in 2007. In January 2010, this eloquent journalist resigned from FSC. This was to take a position with ESPN News.

However, he was faced with controversy when he used the term “chink in the armor” in reference to New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin on-air as an ESPNews anchor. For this, he was suspended for 30 days.
In February 2018, he was announced as the new lead play-by-play broadcaster on YouTube TV for Los Angeles Football Club in Major League Soccer. Additionally, he continued his anchoring duties on SportsCenter at ESPN’s Los Angeles studios. This was till late 2018.
Starting in February 2017, he has been co-hosting the Max and Herc podcast. He co-hosts beside Herculez Gomez. The podcast is a professionally produced cast on the topic of soccer. It is also part of the ESPN family of podcasts. He announced through a tweet that the successful podcast had come to an end in early 2019. This was to focus on his responsibilities with LAFC.
