Mika Brzezinski Biography
Mika Brzezinski is a renowned American journalist, liberal political commentator, talk show host, and author who currently co-hosts MSNBC’s weekday morning broadcast show Morning Joe. Previously, she worked as a CBS News correspondent, and she was also their principal “Ground Zero” reporter during the morning of the September 11 attacks.
In 2007 Brzezinski joined the MSNBC team as an occasional anchor and was subsequently chosen to co-host the Morning Joe show, alongside Joe Scarborough. Similarly, Mika is a visiting fellow at the Harvard Institute of Politics. Her major political interest is in wage equality for women. As well, she is the author of three books; two on her career as a journalist and one on food addiction.
In 2021, Forbes partnered with Mika and her “Know Your Value” initiative, to bring light on 50 diverse women over the age of 50 who have gained significant success later in life, mostly by overcoming formidable odds or barriers.
Brzezinski went to Madeira School and later joined Georgetown University for two years before transferring to Williams College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1989.

Her father was teaching at Columbia University when she was born; the family moved to McLean, Virginia, near Washington, D.C., in late 1976, when Zbigniew was named National Security Advisor by newly elected President Jimmy Carter. Her brother, Mark Brzezinski, is an American diplomat and was the United States Ambassador to Sweden from 2011 to 2015. Her second brother is military expert Ian Brzezinski. She is the first cousin of the author Matthew Brzezinski.

Mika married TV news reporter James Patrick Hoffer on October 23, 1993, currently working at WABC-TV. The duo met when both worked at WTIC-TV. Together they have two daughters, Emilie and Carlie Hoffer. However, the couple divorced in 2016 based on allegations of an affair between Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough.
Mika and Scarborough got engaged in early 2017. They tied the knot on November 24, 2018, in Washington, D.C.

Mika Brzezinski Career
Brzezinski started her journalism career as an assistant at ABC’s World News This Morning in 1990. After a year, she joined Tribune-owned Fox affiliate WTIC-TV/WTIC-DT in Hartford, Connecticut. While there, she progressed from assignment and features editor to general assignments reporter. Moreover, in 1992, Mika moved to CBS affiliate WFSB-TV/WFSB-DT in Hartford and after a short while, she progressed through the ranks and became its weekday morning anchor in 1995.
Similarly, in 1997, she left that role and became part of CBS News, where she worked as a correspondent and anchor for the overnight Up to the Minute news program. In 2001, Mika began a short hiatus from CBS News, a time when she worked for rival MSNBC on the weekday afternoon show, HomePage, with co-anchors Ashleigh Banfield and Gina Gaston. Entertainment Weekly termed the trio “the Powerpuff Girls of journalism”.
9/11 Correspondent
Brzezinski made her comeback to CBS News as a desk correspondent in September 2001. This move led her into the limelight as a principal “Ground Zero” reporter for the September 11, 2001 attacks. She broadcast live from the scene when the South Tower collapsed. In her last position at CBS News, she worked as a CBS News correspondent, substitute anchor, as well as a segment anchor for breaking news segments and routine updates. At this time, she became an occasional contributor to CBS Sunday Morning and 60 Minutes. Unfortunately, she was fired by CBS.
MSNBC
Furthermore, on January 26, 2007, Mika returned to MSNBC, doing the evening “Up to the Minute” news updates. Later she worked primetime newsbreaks during the week. As well, she filed occasional reports for NBC Nightly News and appeared as an occasional anchor on Weekend Today. Unfortunately, Mika resigned from both shows on the eve of a renewal option, when Scarborough chose her to co-host on Morning Joe.

Mika has written three books, published by Weinstein Books. Her first book, All Things at Once, was a memoir published in January 2010.
Knowing Your Value: Women, Money and Getting What You’re Worth, published in 2011, discusses women and financial negotiations. It includes ideas for negotiating salaries and compensation packages. However, in 2018 this was revised, updated, and was released as Know Your Value. Her third book, Obsessed: America’s Food Addiction and My Own, was published in 2012.
