Monica Malpass Biography
Monica Malpass is an American journalist and former television anchor for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s WPVI Action News. She co-anchored WPVI’s weekday newscast at 5 p.m. and hosted Inside Story, the station’s political chat show. As of June 1, 2020, Malpass is a business anchor at the NASDAQ MarketSite.
Malpass holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which she earned in 1983. She also received a Rotary scholarship to the University of Puerto Rico in 1984.
Malpass graduated from Villanova University with a master’s degree in political science in 1999. She has also completed the Brookings Institution’s Inside Washington program and received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Neumann College in Pennsylvania.
Monica began her career as a reporter for The Daily Tar Heel, a student-run newspaper at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She went on to work as a news anchor and reporter for WCHL-AM in Chapel Hill, a reporter for WFMY-TV in Greensboro, and a reporter and anchor for WXII-TV in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
In January 1988, Malpass began working for WPVI (Channel 6), a local ABC affiliate in Philadelphia. She began her career as a morning news anchor. Monica was also recognized as the Broadcast Pioneers of the Philadelphia Hall of Fame in 2006.
Malpass announced her departure from WPVI on May 22, 2019, after 31 years. She didn’t say where she was heading. She is now a business anchor at the NASDAQ MarketSite as of June 1, 2020.
