Musalia Mudavadi Biography
Musalia Mudavadi is a Kenyan politician who served as the seventh Vice President of Kenya and Deputy Prime Minister from 2008-2012 May when he resigned officially to join the presidential race. Currently, he is the Party Leader of the Amani National Congress and the Deputy Presidential Candidate of the Kenyan Kwanza Alliance for the August 9, 2022, general elections.
Born in a quaker family, Mudavadi played rugby union for Mean Machine RFC. He schooled at Nairobi school and later attended the University of Nairobi. Most notably his political journey began early in the 1980s when he was elected unopposed to take the Sabatia Constituency seat in 1989.
In 2012, he sought the Nomination of ODM to be the presidential candidate for the 2013 general elections. Later on, he said that ODM Leader Raila Odinga had placed illegal political mechanisms that made it impossible for another presidential aspirant to seek a successful free, and fair presidential nomination.
Following this, Mudavadi joined the United Democratic Party and became its flag-bearer for the presidential election. Mudavadi came a close third in the run for top leadership in the country. In addition, he left ODM after he was technically locked out of the presidential race through a party constitution clause that gave the party leader a direct nomination to be a presidential candidate.

Since then, Mudavadi has been the opposition figure in Kenyan politics. In March 2021, Musalia with the other two NASA principals with Gideon Moi formed the ONE KENYA ALLIANCE after winning three consecutive by-elections with their respective parties.
