Omar Sachedina is a Canadian broadcast journalist currently serving as the Chief News Anchor since September 2022. He earned his position in 2022 after replacing Lisa LaFemalle whose contract was dismissed by CTV National News. Omar previously worked as the main National Affairs correspondent for CTV news before replacing Lisa. He also worked with City News and CP 24 back in 2008 prior to joining CTV News. In 2006, Omar also worked as a news reporter for CBS Radio, The Globe & Mail and Toronto Star.

Sachedina is a British Columbia native who was raised by a Muslim middle-class family. His parents migrated as Indians who hailed from Uganda and settled in British Columbia Canada. Omar developed an interest in journalism and news at the age of twelve. Therefore, he began submitting letters to editors of various publications by the time he was turning thirteen.

Omar finished high school through an International Baccalaureate Program at Port Moody Secondary School in his hometown British Columbia. Omar then graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Philosophy from McGill University based in Montreal. He then received his Master of Science in journalism from Columbia University based in New York.

Omar began his career as a journalist while he was a college student. In 2005, he traveled to Uganda in East Africa to figure out his East African Heritage. He also produced a PBS Frontline Fellowship feature document called Uganda while he was there. After his college graduation, Sachedina worked for PBS and then the Vancouver Sun.

He then went on to appear as an editor and reporter for the Toronto Star, CBS Radio, and The Globe & Mail. Eventually, Omar joined CP24 and the CTV National News in 2009. His main task at CTV was to cover the latest news reports based in Toronto, Canada. In 2013, Omar was moved to Ottawa and worked as a Parliamentary Correspondent thereafter until he was promoted in 2022.
