Patrice Wood is a renowned American journalist who currently works as the main news presenter for WJAR, the NBC affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island. Wood also serves as the education reporter and the Tuesday’s Child segment host. She was further inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame Women Inductees as well as the Rhode Island Radio and Television Hall of Fame.
Born and raised in Rockford, Ohio, Patrice received a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Bowling State University. She then started her career as a reporter and news presenter at WDHO-TV in Toledo, Ohio. Patrice also interned with ABC News, the United States House of Representatives, and Time Magazine.
In February 1980, Wood joined WJAR as a reporter and weekends newscaster. She was later promoted t work on the weeknight 11 pm newscasts in 1982. In 1988, she became the anchor of the 5:30 pm edition, the new 5:00 p.m. hour newscast in 1995, and added to her duties the 6:00 report in 1997.
During her stay at the station, Patrice has mainly worked alongside presenter Doug White, meteorologist Gary Ley, and sportscaster Frank Carpano. She has interviewed notable names such as Oprah Winfrey and Mark Wahlberg.
Notably, Patrice is the longest-serving female newsreader in Providence television history, with 40 years on the air.
