Paul Meincke Biography
Paul Meincke is an American journalist who is a former reporter for ABC7 Chicago. In addition, he joined the station in July 1985. He is a Rock Island, Ilinois native who received his Bachelor of Arts degree in speech from Augustana College and works as an Eyewitness Reporter.
Over the years, he has covered many major news stories the arrest of the Unabomber, the death penalty debate in Illinois, the first Gulf war, the Branch Davidian Stand-off in Texas, the 1999 release of captured US servicemen in Belgrade, and also the political corruption trials of Governors Ryan and Blagojevich.
Most notably, Meincke began his career as a radio play-by-play announcer. He then became an anchor TV newscast at WHBF-TV in his hometown. In 1981, he moved to WEWS-TV where he served as a backup anchor and general assignment reporter.
Throughout his career, he has been active with Boy Scouts. Following this, he was presented with the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award an adult volunteer can receive in recognition of time and effort. In his free time, he has backpacked the Philmont Scout ranch five times, bicycled across the US in the summer of 2012, and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2008.
However, in 2015, he retired after 30 years as a top reporter at ABC 7. Later that year, he was inducted into the Silver Circle of the Chicago/Midwest character of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
