Peter Kay is a renowned Britain’s top comedian who has held a position in the Guinness world record for his successful comedy tour. In the 2010/11 tour, Kay played to over 1.2 million people.
Kay made his comedy breakthrough with the popular Phoenix Nights Comedy series. However, over the recent days, he has focused on one-man comedy shows, touring around Europe.
Peter was born and raised in Bolton, Lancashire, Europe. He often makes reference to his own birth town in his stand-up comedy. From an early age, Peter recalls how he enjoyed making people laugh.
He joined the University of Salford to study media performance. After graduating, he started work as a part-time stand-up comedian, later winning the North West Comedian of the Year award.
In 1997, Kay won Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny contest later getting a nomination for a Perrier Award for his show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Having his name mapped in the field of comedy, he co-wrote and featured in That Peter Kay Thing for channel 4 in the year 2000.

This in turn resulted in another spin-off, Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere in 2004. The following year, he recorded a promotional video that mimed Tony Christie’s 1971 hit (Is This the Way To) Amarillo. This song rose to number one in the UK Single Chart.
In 2008, Peter co-wrote and featured in Britain’s Got the Pop Factor….and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice. This was a parody of several British reality television shows. As for the series’ fictional protagonist Geraldine McQueen, he released the single, The Winner’s Song, rising to number 2 in the UK singles chart.
His 2010-2011 stand-up comedy tour was officially incorporated into the Guinness World Records as the best-selling song of all time. This single rose to over 1.2 million people. McQueen co-wrote and featured in Peter Kay’s Car Share, a sitcom screened by the BBC for two series of 2015-2017. He was also featured in the 2015 BBC sitcom Cradle to Grave.
In 20016, Kay won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Male Comedy Performance, the BAFTA TV Award for Best Scripted Comedy, and the National Television Award for Best Comedy for Car Share.
