Rich Eisen Biography
Richard Eisen is an American television sportscaster and radio host who is currently working at NFL Network. He also hosts a daily sports radio show called The Rich Eisen Show. Moreover, Eisen has been working for the network since he joined in 2003 and has hosted various shows such as halftime, pregame, and postgame. Furthermore, he is well-known for his appearances on NFL Total Access, NFL GameDay Morning, Thursday Night Football, and many other shows. Richard is a writer and producer, known for Draft Day, The Kid and That’s My Boy.
Additionally, he was born in Brooklyn and raised in Staten Island, New York City. Thereafter, he attended a local school in his hometown and later enrolled at Michigan University. During his time there, Rich worked as co–sports editor of the school’s Michigan Daily and was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. In 1990, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and shortly afterward he furthered his study at Northwestern University. There he received a Master of Science degree in journalism.
Soon after graduation, he began his career as a writer for the Staten Island Advance and then worked at Chicago Tribune. After that, he joined KRCR-TV in Redding, California, as a sports anchor and reporter. Aside from that, he also worked as a correspondent for the Medill News Service’s Washington. From 1996 to 2003, Rich worked as an anchor and reporter for ESPN before he joined the NFL Network. Eisen was part of a comedy duo with Stuart Scott and was well-known for his sense of humor. Moreover, he also worked as a host for ESPN’s reality series, Beg, Borrow & Deal.
Eisen also worked for different shows such as The Tony Kornheiser Show, The Dan Patrick Show, and CBS Radio Show. His most notable achievement while at ESPN was breaking the news of St. Louis slugger Mark McGwire’s retirement from baseball in 2001 on SportsCenter. After he joined NFL Network in June 2003, he become the main host of NFL Total Access. On top of that, Eisen also worked as a new host of NFL GameDay Morning, the first pregame show on the NFL Network.
In addition to that, he also hosted various shows such as NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football pregame, halftime, and postgame shows. In 2010, Rich expanded his podcast called “The Rich Eisen Podcast,” the first-ever podcast for NFL.com. He also hosts his nationally syndicated sports talk radio show alongside Chris Brockman, Michael Del Tufo, and TJ Jefferson. Four years later, he started a new sports talk TV/radio show, The Rich Eisen Show, which becomes aired on NFL and DirecTV’s El Segundo, California Studios on Audience Network. As of 2020, the show moved from Audience to YouTube due to the impending shutdown of Audience.
Two years later, the program also moved to The Roku Channel where it was located on Sirius XM satellite radio and Internet streaming. The show is currently available on Sirius 216, XM 202, and SXM app channel 992. In 2022, Richard also won the nomination for the Outstanding Studio Show Sports Emmy Award. Besides that, he also appeared as a guest star in five episodes of the Disney TV series The Might Ducks: Game Changers.
