Rick Sanchez Biography

Rick Sanchez is a well-known American journalist. Currently, he is the CEO of Agua Media, a first-to-market Podcast Network aimed at acculturated Latinos and the New American Mainstream. He has been a journalist and television news anchor for over 30 years. Previously, he worked as a columnist for Fox News and Fox News Latino.

Sánchez was born in Guanabacoa, Cuba, a township of Havana, and grew up in Hialeah, Florida, a suburb of Miami. He attended Mae M. Walters Elementary School, Henry H. Filer Middle School, and Hialeah High School, graduating in 1977. Sánchez accepted a football scholarship to Minnesota State University Moorhead and transferred to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis on a CBS/WCCO Journalism Scholarship in 1979.

Prior to joining CNN in 2004. Rick has worked in a major station such as WCCO’s satellite sister station in Alexandria, Minnesota, while still in college. He has also worked for KHOU in Houston, MSNBC, WSVN, and WTVJ, and anchored on WB-affiliated WBZL. During his time at CNN, Sánchez first worked as an international report and filed domestic. Later on, he began to host his own two-hour show in the afternoons, Rick’s List, where he invited viewers to share their opinions and questions via social media.

In addition, Rick was a substitute anchor for CNN’s 8 p.m. prime-time broadcast. He was one of the highest-rated anchors on CNN. On top of that, he won several Emmy awards including being a part of three Peabody award-winning teams. Sanchez also took over the 8 p.m. EST slot with an evening version of Rick’s List, which continued to the premiere of Parker Spitzer after the cancellation of Campbell Brown’s show.

On July 27, 2011, it was announced that Sanchez had started his own radio announcer for Florida International University where he provided an analysis of the FIU football team. Finally, he came back to cable news as a columnist on Fox News Latino. There he started as a news contributor for MundoFox at the end of 2012. Apart from that, he has appeared on the Fox News Channel as a contributor. The following year, Rick came back to South Florida with a weekday show on Clear Channel-owned Newsradio 610 WIOD. However, the show did not last for long due to the low rate that caused it to be closed.
