Rob Hughes is a veteran American journalist currently working as a morning anchor for Wake Up Atlanta every weekday morning from 4:30–7:00 a.m. He joined CBS46 from WCNC in Charlotte, where he shifted from sports reporting to anchoring news.
A Midwesterner, Hughes grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He later chased his dream of sportscasting and earned a Master’s in Journalism from Indiana University.
Immediately after his graduation in 2011, Rob joined WISH-TV in Indianapolis as a Sports Department Intern. After a few months, he moved to serve as an intern at ESPN 1070 The Fan for four months. Rob transitioned to sports photographer stringer at WISH-TV between August 2011 and November 2011.
His first broadcast job was at Kansas First News in Topeka, Kansas, where he worked as a weekend sports anchor between November 2011 and August 2013.
In August 2013, he joined WLFI as a sports director, a position he holds to date. Later on, in December 2016, Hughes joined TEGNA in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he still works.
