Ron Claiborne (Ronald Eldridge Claiborne) is a retired well-known American journalist and a correspondent for ABC News. In fact, he was the “more news reporter” for the weekend edition of Good Morning America, anchored by Dan Harris and Paula Faris. Ron won the Daytime Emmy award in 2000 for Outstanding Morning Program.
After Ron completed his education, he started his professional career in 1977. For around three years, he worked as a reporter and editor for United States International.
Claiborne worked as a general assignment correspondent for independent WNYW-TV in New York City. From 1980 to 1982, he was a reporter for the New York Daily News, where he covered areas concerning metropolitan news, city politics, city hall, and also state government. Additionally, during the late 1970s, Claiborne worked as a reporter and editor for the United Press International wire service.
Moreover, in 1986, Ron joined ABC News as a general correspondent based in Boston and frequently reported and contributed to World News, Nightline, and Good Morning America. He covered a wide variety of stories, such as the legalization of gay marriages in Massachusetts, the Boston Catholic Church scandal in 2002, the Elian Gonzales custody battle, the Yugoslavia conflict in Belgrade, the Persian Gulf War, and both the 1992 and 2008 U.S. presidential elections.
In September 2018, Ron retired from ABC News and Good Morning America. Claiborne attended and graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. He also enrolled at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism to attain his master’s degree. His career began when he first served at an independent newspaper based in Richmond, California.
