Ryen Russillo Biography
Ryen Russillo is an American sports journalist and sports host, best known for hosting a popular radio show on ESPN for many years. Currently, he produces a podcast for the ESPN Network. Since his departure from ESPN in 2019, Ryen writes and hosts the Ryen Russillo Podcast for The Ringer.
A native of West Tisbury, Massachusetts, Ryen is a graduate of the University of Vermont, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and also an intern at WCAX in Burlington. Russillo was also a play-by-play man for the Trenton Thunder for six months.
Between 2009 and 2017, Ryen was a host or co-host of the afternoon show on ESPN Radio. He also co-hosted with Scott Van Pelt on what was originally titled The Scott Van Pelt Show and later became SVP & Russillo. Following Van Pelt’s departure, but before Kanell joined, the show was briefly named The Russillo Show. However, during the time Danny Kannel co-hosted the show, it was called Russillo and Kanell.
Ryen hosted NBA Sunday, The Baseball Show, and ESPN Radio College GameDay during the 2008 season on ESPN Radio. In addition, he worked as a regular host for GameNight and as a fill-in host for The Doug Gottlieb Show and All Nite with Jason Smith.
Russillo regularly appeared on several shows on Comcast Sportsnet New England, including New England Sports Tonight with Gary Tanguay and Greg Dickerson. He was also a studio analyst for the Boston Celtics’ television coverage.
During the NBA season, Ryen was the host of ESPN’s The NBA Today Podcast, the network’s second most downloaded podcast series. In late 2018, Russillo re-signed with ESPN. He then had a reunion with his old colleague Scott Van Pelt in June 2019 on the “SVP & Russillo” podcast.
However, On August 5, 2019, Ryen announced on his Twitter account that he would be leaving ESPN at the end of the month to join The Ringer as a full-time media personality.
