Sarah Lateiner, famously known as “Bogi Lateiner,” is a renowned American Automobile Service Excellence (ASC) certified master technician, small business owner, technical educator, and reality television personality best known for teaching car maintenance and repair classes for women nationwide. She is also famous for hosting the show “All Girls Garage” on the Velocity Network.
Lateiner was born in Flushing, New York City, and raised in Montclair, New Jersey. She spent a year studying abroad in Hungary and adopted the nickname ‘Bogi’, a shortened version of her Hungarian name Boglárka. Sarah pursued Law & Society and Women’s Studies at Oberlin College but decided to pursue a career in the automotive trades instead of becoming a lawyer.
She worked as a BMW certified Mechanic in Arizona and New York for six years, the only mechanic in the shops that employed her. In 2006, Sarah opened her own shop in her driveway before opening 180 Degrees Automotives in Phoenix, Arizona. Her business was initially a two-car auto repair shop, but eventually grew reaching up to a million dollars in sales during her sixth year.
She made a major move and purchased a two-story building to house her staff of six, envisioning an auto repair business on the first floor and educational car classes for women on the second floor. This was always her goal. Sarah teaches women’s car maintenance classes and has become a coach in the automotive industry.
In her business, Sarah reserves apprenticeships for female technicians and she believes that it si difficult for women to get a first job in the automotive industry. Moreover, she has started a scholarship for women pursuing careers in the automotive field. In 2011, Lateiner was named to the Phoenix Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 list.
