Shayla Reaves Biography
Shayla Reaves is an American journalist currently working as an anchor and reporter for WCCO. She joined the station in December of 2020. Previously, she co-anchored evening newscasts for WNCT-TV (CBS). Reaves is a native of Tennessee and before WNCT, she reported in Columbus, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky, and most recently Tampa, Florida. During her stay in Tampa, she reported news overnight for the market’s #1 rated morning show. Moreover, she also appeared countrywide for live reports as requested.
While in Ohio, Reaves earned an Emmy for breaking news coverage of a train derailment and explosion. As well, Shayla has also received awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press.
Shayla likes doing stories that help individuals and improve their lives. Her work once prompted contributions for a family reopening a former Boys and Girls Club structure in Kentucky.
For her education, Reaves joined Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, she was named the top broadcast student in her graduating class. She earned the university’s prestigious Gary Cummings Award. Additionally, she was selected as an Outstanding Woman Journalism Student by the Association of Women Journalists-Chicago. Furthermore, Shayla was recognized for her reporting by the Illinois News Broadcasters Association.
