Shaynah Ferreira Biography
Shaynah Ferreira is an Emmy nominated American journalist who currently serves as an anchor and reporter at FOX29 in Philadelphia. She joined the station in August of 2021 as a general assignment reporter and anchor.
Before joining FOX 29 News, Ferreira worked as an anchor and reporter at WTNH News 8, the ABC station based in Hartford, CT, for n two years. Her extensive reporting on the COVID-19 pandemic and its disproportionate effect on communities of color garnered her an Emmy nomination.
Ferreira started her television career as an associated producer in her hometown at WJAR-TV in Providence, Rhode Island, prior to getting her on-air break at WSAV-TV, the NBC station in Savannah, GA.
During her tenure in the Peach State, she covered, hurricanes Michael and Dorian, the mass shooting at the Jacksonville Landing, and the trial of 5 Blood gang members accused of shooting and killing a Savannah State University student.
Regarding her education, Ferreira obtained her BS in Broadcast Journalism from Emerson College in Boston. In addition, she concluded journalism coursework in Havana, Cuba. While there, she was an executive producer for the mini-documentary “Afro-Cuba Libre,” a segment documenting racial tensions and inequities on the island.
Moreover, Ferreira is an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists as well as the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She is multilingual, speaking Spanish, Portuguese, and Cape Verdean Creole, and aspires to use her language skills to tell the wide range of stories of viewers across the Philadelphia area.
Additionally, in her free time, she likes traveling, trying new restaurants, and spending quality time with her tight-knit family.
