Shon Gables is a well-known American journalist who is currently working as an evening news anchor at WGCL/ CBS 46 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. in Atlanta. She joined the station in March 2018. Previously, Shon worked for several stations like KTBS-TV, WFAA-TV, WCBS, and KWCH-TV. Additionally, she is also the recipient of several National Association of Black Journalists awards and a Lee Evans Outstanding Journalist Award.

She was born and raised in Oklahoma, United States. After her high school education, she enrolled at Oklahoma University, where she graduated with a degree in economics. In addition, Shon also obtained an Executive Master of Business Administration from Louisiana Tech University’s College of Business. She began her professional career at KWCH-DT in Wichita and served as an anchor and reporter. Later, Gables moved and joined KWTV-DT in Oklahoma City, where she was promoted to news anchor and education reporter. While there she covered the US military issues affecting Tinker Air Force Base.

Moreover, Shon served as a United States Army Reservist for seven years. Prior to that, she also worked as a news director for KVSP in Oklahoma City. Before joining WCBS morning broadcast, she worked at WDIV in Detroit as a reporter and morning anchor covering local news. During her time there, she worked as a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society’s Southwest. At WCBS Network, Shon covered extensive stories including the Twin Towers Memorial, the Summer Olympics bid, the Historic New York City Subway Centennial Celebration, and the NYC Transit strike among others.

Throughout her career, Gables has hosted several televised specials such as the Salute to NYC Schools: Truman High School and the Tunnels to Towers Run.” She also hosted the Black Enterprise Magazine’s nationally syndicated program “Black Enterprise Business Report,”. While still working for BET Network, Gables interviewed top newsmakers including President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and BET co-founder Shelia Johnson among other people.

Furthermore, she went on to work as the weekend morning anchor for WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas. Two years later, she served as an anchor for KTBS-TV in Shreveport. Additionally, Gables is also the recipient of several National Association of Black Journalists awards and a Lee Evans Outstanding Journalist Award. In 2003, she was honored with the Media Awards by the Harlem Chamber of Commerce for her excellent work.

Previously, she was the recipient of a National Black Achiever, an American Women in Radio and Television’s Gracie Award. Currently, Shon works on an advisory board of EthiDolls, a board of Eagle Academy, an all-boys public school in the Bronx, and an Ethnic specialty doll manufacturer. On top of that, she is also a supporter of NFTE, the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship.
