Tearsa Smith is an American journalist who is currently working as a reporter and anchor at WATE in Knoxville since joining the station in June 2002. Prior to this, she was the Good Morning Tennessee co-anchor since 2002 alongside Doug Currin. In relation to her education, Smith attended Florida A&M University where she majored in Broadcast Journalism.
At WATE she handles breaking and developing stories as well as news of the day for the East Tennessee demographic. In addition, she uses the internet, telestrator, raw and edited video, sound, satellite, UStream, and news wires to tell breaking and developing stories.
Smith daily tells stories without using a teleprompter, as the show is structured for a bit of ad-libbing. She is also responsible for reporting taped segments for early evening newscasts. Smith is responsible for anchoring the early evening newscast in the absence of a scheduled anchor.
Furthermore, she’s a daily contributor to the “Marc and Kim” show on star 102.1fm. Smith has an extensive background in live field reporting. She loves the idea of helping someone start their day. Smith is a board member of the Wesley House Community Center and is also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Soronity, Inc., Knoxville Alumni Chapter.
