Biography
Tom Overlie is an Emmy-Award-winning American anchor currently working for KTTC. He joined KTTC News Center in May 2000. He joined the station as co-anchor of the 6 pm and 10 pm weekday newscasts.
Overlie became part of the KTTC News in May 2000 as co-anchor of the 6 pm and 10 pm weekday newscasts. Luckily, he has won 6 Emmy Awards for best newscast (Upper Midwest Chapter), he is the Southeast Business Journal’s “One to Watch Under 40,” also he has been named Best TV Newscaster for 3 years in a row (Rochester Magazine).
Similarly, Tom’s other news awards include those by the Minnesota Associated Press, the Minnesota Broadcaster’s Association, the North Dakota Broadcasters Association, and the Northwest Broadcast News-Eric Sevareid Award. Additionally, in April of 2017, Overlie was honored with an Eric Sevareid Award for hard news for sharing a World War II Prisoner of War story. Over the years, news reports have taken him from the “backyard” to remote villages in the heart of Mexico.
Moreover, before joining KTTC, Overlie served for five years in North Dakota for Meyer Television News KMOT-TV, as an anchor, Medical Reporter, and Producer. As well, he also worked at KEYC-TV in Mankato, Minnesota for three years.
Additionally, Tom’s hobbies include writing books, home renovation (featured in Rochester Post Bulletin, Rochester Magazine, Friends of Mayowood Tour), and extensive travel. Actually, he likes exploring remote parts of the globe, which includes three years as a student in Jos, Nigeria, West Africa. Moreover, Overlie also involves himself in the Rochester community by hosting the Eagles Cancer Telethon every January, and he’s been awarded by the American Cancer Society, Minnesota Veterans, Alzheimer’s Association, the University of Minnesota-Rochester, Boys and Girls Club of Rochester, among other charitable organizations.
