Tom Selleck is an American actor and film producer. He is known for his role as Hawaii-based private investigator “Thomas Magnum” in the TV series of the 1980s, Magnum, P.I. in the year 1980.
Selleck graduated from Grant High School in 1962 and enrolled in Los Angeles Valley Schools. However, he was moved to Southern California University.
He was involved in basketball and other sports at the university. Selleck was a major in business management, but after a drama coach recommended that he pursue acting, he dropped out of college in his senior year. Tom studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse under Milton Katselas.
Selleck started his acting career making his first TV appearance as a senior college at The Dating Game in 1965. He soon started getting offers to play small parts in TV dramas, mini-series, and TV movies. He also featured in the advertisements for Pepsi-Cola, Right Guard Deodorant, Marlboro Cigarette, Aperitif Dubonne, Close-Up. And the Chaz cologne of Revlon. After some time of struggle, Selleck became a leading cowboy in Western movies, beginning with his role as a cowboy and Marshal Orrin Sackett in the 1979 film The Sacketts. He looked at the Concrete Cowboys the same year. In 1982, he accompanied The Sacketts with The Shadow Runners.
He received the “Western Heritage Award” for his role in The Last Stand at Saber River in 1997. His big break came when he was starred as Thomas Magnum in the i980 film, Magnum, P.I. The show would go on for eight seasons and 163 episodes until 1988 when he received the Emmy Award for Best Lead Actor in the Drama Series in 1984. He also started in the Magnum years as an acrophobic police officer in Runaway and a father in Three Men and a Baby.

In the 1990s, he also stared at Three Men and Little Lady, High Road to China, Lassiter, Her Alibi, An Innocent Man, Folks! , Christopher Columbus: The Discovery, Mr. Baseball, In & Out, The Love Letter. In the mid-nineties, Selleck played the part of Richard Burke in the Friends TV series. In February 1998, Selleck took the lead role in the CBS sitcom called The Closer. His last two cowboy appearances were in the 2001 TNT Crossfire Trail movie and the 2003 Monte Walsh movie. Since 2005, Selleck has starred in the role of lawmaker Jesse Stone in a series of made-for-TV movies based on Robert B. Parker’s novels.
He joined the NBC Las Vegas drama in the season-five opener on September 28, 2007. Starting in 2010, he appeared at CBS in the American Police Procedural/Drama series Blue Bloods. Besides, the actor is also a producer. He did company voice-overs for Florida’s Natural Orange Juice and AT&T. As a host, Selleck presented a special TLC series called The Realistic Guide to the Universe in the mid-1990s. Throughout his career, Tom has won two Golden Apple Awards as The Male Star Of The Year (1982 & 1983), three People’s Choice Awards as Favorite Male TV Actor (1984 & 1985), an Emmy Award (1985), and a Golden Globe Award (1985).
