Tom Skilling Biography
Tom Skilling is a popular American meteorologist who is currently serving as a Chief meteorologist at WGN-TV based in Chicago. He joined the station back on the 13th of August 1978. Skilling appears on weekdays on WGN Evening News from 5 to 7 pm, WGN News at Nine, and WGN News at Ten. He has worked as a meteorologist at WGN-TV for over forty years. In addition, in August 2018, he celebrated his 40th anniversary with WGN-TV. However, Skilling is under contract at WGN until 2022.
Skilling went back to the Chicago area and joined WGN-TV on 13 August 1978. Currently, he serves as WGN-TV’s chief meteorologist. Similarly, he is rumored to be the highest-paid local broadcast meteorologist in the United States of America. As well, Skilling writes the daily weather report for the Chicago Tribune. His weather broadcasts feature the latest technology in computer imagery and animation methods.
Skilling has long been praised for his in-depth reports and remarkable accuracy. In addition, he made headlines in 2011 for correctly predicting the Groundhog Day blizzard just two weeks before it paralyzed the Chicago area. Tom was consulted for the film The Weather Man, which was set in Tom’s home state of Chicago at a fictitious version of WGN-TV, as his late WGN-TV co-worker Bob Collins referred to him.
