Tommy Lee Sparta Biography
Leroy Russell Junior popularly known by his stage names Tommy Lee Sparta is a Jamaican dancehall artist from Flankers Montego Bay. He rose to fame as a member of Adidjahiem Records and the associated Portmore Empire crew under the leadership of Vybz Kartel. He has been a controversial figure in dancehall due to his self-described “Gothic Dancehall” style, which often features dark and Satanist-inspired subject matter.
Tommy attended Anchovy High School where he performed at many gatherings there. He decided to pursue his professional career after being motivated by his home crowd. Thereafter he proceeded and record his first song, Spartan Story at Snipa Studios in Flankers. He became a staple at the studio recording several tracks like Sparta Out At Night, Mama Mi Love You, and Warn Dem. The songs became well known and later after he was a prominent performer on stage shows throughout Western Jamaica.

The song “Some Bwoy” rose to number one on the Jamaica charts as well as in Pree Dis and Entertainment Report in 2011. In the following year, he was recognized locally as well as internationally making him the first full-blown dancehall artist from the second city Montego Bay to be the headlining artist for both the International Reggae Sumfest show and the Sting music festival in Portmore. On top of that, Tommy made his second mark with, Psycho shooting straight to the top of the charts. The Olympic fever persuaded Sparta to rerecord both of his chart toppers in honor of Jamaica’s Olympic team and track superstar, Usain Bolt.
