Tony McEwing FOX11 | Good Day LA
McEwing served as a reporter for The News-Sun, the biggest daily newspaper in the suburban Lake County, where he covered business and industry in the summer of 1980. He has been known as an actor and writer for Big Momma’s House, Leland’s The United States, and Songs of Our Success.
He worked for 12 years at KXTV (the CBS affiliate in Sacramento), where he anchored newscasts in the morning and noon. Tony has provided in-depth reports on the Southland, including the Rodney King trial and the civil unrest. He was in Washington, D.C., until he joined KXTV. Correspondent to WDSU, an NBC affiliate in New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1980 to 1981.
Tony joined KTTV FOX 11 in 1993 to anchor Fox 11 Morning News and co-anchored Good Day LA between April 1994 and April 1995 as well. In 2001 and 2003, he was then awarded Emmy Awards for his half-hour specials titled “Songs of Our Progress.” He submitted a three-part report on the Los Angeles Mission’s year-long recovery program, which in 1997 earned a nomination for an Emmy Award for the Los Angeles region.
Those reports were later compiled into the half-hour news special, Project of Hope. In the Best Current Affairs category, they received the National Iris Award, won the Golden Mike Award for Best Documentary, and won the 1998 National Emmy Award.
During his stint at Fox11, Tony has received seven Emmy awards as of 2018.
