Trace Gallagher Biography
Trace Gallagher is a well-known American journalist who currently works for Fox News Channel as a television news anchor and correspondent. He formerly worked for Studio B and the Fox Report as a general assignment correspondent and replacement anchor. On The Live Desk, he also acted as a co-anchor for The Live Desk news program.
Trace grew up in Mammoth Lakes, California, a ski resort community. Before graduating from high school in 1979, he was the quarterback for the Mammoth Huskies football team. Gallagher subsequently went on to the University of San Diego, where he majored in finance and captained the Torero football team.
Gallagher formerly worked at Orlando’s WCPX (now WKMG), Arizona’s KYEL (now KSWT), Las Vegas’ KVBC (now KSNV), and Boise’s KTVB. Trace began his career as a correspondent for the FOX News Channel in 1996, stationed in San Francisco. He also worked for Fox News in Chicago and New York City.

Trace was a general assignment correspondent, co-host with Martha MacCallum of The Live Desk, and a substitute anchor for Studio B and Fox Report. He was based in Los Angeles. He covered the Space Shuttle Columbia catastrophe as well as the 2004 Southeast Asian tsunami while at Fox. The Live Desk was later replaced by America Live with Megyn Kelly on February 1, 2010.
He covered the Capitol Hill shooting, the Washington Navy Yard shooting, the sexual harassment allegations against former San Diego Mayor Bob Filner, the George Zimmerman murder trial, and the birth of His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge, the Duke, and Duchess of Cambridge’s first child.
Trace also covered the catastrophic accident of Asiana flight 214 at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), the Boston Marathon bombing, and the massacres at Newtown Elementary School and a movie theater in Aurora, CO in 2012.
