Willie Geist Biography
William Geist is an American television personality and journalist currently working as a co-anchor of MSNBC‘s Morning Joe and anchor of Sunday Today with Willie Geist. Geist often serves as a fill-in anchor on both the weekday edition and the Saturday edition of Today.
In addition, William is a correspondent for NBC News and NBC Sports, hosting and contributing to NBC’s Olympic coverage. Moreover, he has hosted the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks and Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting on NBC.
Willie attended George Washington Middle School in Ridgewood, New Jersey where he met his future wife Christina Sharkey. Geist is a proud cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University, where she was an editor of the school’s newspaper, The Vanderbilt Hustler.
Willie began his career as an editor and producer for CNN Sports Illustrated. Eventually, he worked as a field producer and reporter for CNN Sports, where he covered the Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, and The Masters.
Geist then started substituting as a co-host on MSNBC’s 6-9 a.m. morning time slot almost immediately after Don Imus was fired in April 2007. Later on, he has named a permanent co-host of Morning Joe, along with Jose Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski in September 2007.

In July 2009, Willie started hosting his own 30-minute program Way Too Early with Willie Geist, which airs at 5:30 a.m. immediately before Morning Joe on MSNBC. Geist started substituting for Matt Lauer as host of the Today Show as the show’s newsreader.
In November 2012, Geist became an official co-host of Today and left Way Too Early and later a solo-host of the new Sunday Today that launched in April.
In addition, Geist solo anchored NBC’s hours-long coverage of the Orlando nightclub shooting on the morning of June 12, 2016. Willie was on the air for seven successive hours in an NBC News Special Report that aired across the United States. Moreover, Geist and the Sunday TODAY show earned the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for similar coverage on August 4, 2019, the morning after the mass shooting in El Paso, TX, and Dayton, Ohio.
