Wood Harris Biography
Wood Harris is an American actor who is famous for portraying drug kingpin Avon Barksdale in The Wife, cocaine dealer Ace in Paid in Full, and Julius Campbell in Remember the Titans. He is also famous for playing Brooke Payne on the BET miniseries The New Edition Story in 2017 and Barry Fouray in The Breaks.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, he attended Northern Illinois University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts. He also earned a Masters Arts from New York Univerity. While at NIU, he starred in his first role in the basketball drama Above the Rim. He also guest-starred in a variety of television and film venues.
In late 2000, he received his first NAACP Image Award nomination for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture”. In 2002, he starred in the Dame Dash-produced classic film Paid in Full. Harris then starred as Avon Barksdale in The Wire. In addition, he produced his own debut album ‘Beautiful Wonderful, which was intended for release in 2005.
In 2009, he starred as A-maze in Another Day. He narrated the ESPN 30 for 30 Benji in 2012. In the same year, he played Harold in A Streetcar Named Desire. In 2021, he appeared in films like Ransun Games, and Space Jam: A New Legacy. He is set to appear as Tony in Creed III.
