Zazie Beetz is an American actress who starred in the FX comedy-drama series Atlanta (2016-22) for which she received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Beetz also appeared in Easy (2016-19) and voiced Amber Bennett in Invincible. In the film, she appeared in Geostorm.
She has also played the character Domino in Deadpool 2 (2018) and Arthur Fleck in Joker (2019). Born in Berlin, Germany, she attended preschool in Berlin and Kindergarten in New York City. This was before moving with her family there more permanently at the age of 8. She is fluent in both English and German.
Her mixed-race identity was a source of discomfort for her during her upbringing. Growing up in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood, Beetz became interested in acting while attending Muscota New School. She also performed in community theatres and on local stages.
She attended and graduated from LaGuardia Arts High School in 2009. In 2013, she graduated from Skidmore College with a bachelor’s degree in French. After college, she spent a year living in Paris before she was cast in Atlanta. In 2018, she received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
