Jason Matheson Biography
Jason Matheson is an American Emmy Award-winning journalist who is currently the host of Jason & Alexis in the Morning on MyTalk 107.1 in the Twin Cities and also the host of The Jason Show at Fox 9 airing 10.00 a.m. on KSMP-TV.
Matheson started his television career at WCCO-TV where he served as an overnight dispatcher, working the weekend overnight shift. Within a few months, Jason was promoted to the assistant assignment editor and then to weekend assignment editor.
In 2000, Jason joined KMSP-TV, Fox 9 in Minnesota to serve as an executive producer of “The Buzz”, a long-running and highly popular daily entertainment segment that covered local and national entertainment. Within a few months of arrival at the station, Matheson was moved in front of the camera as film critic for the station’s newly launched morning show, “Good Day Minnesota”.
In his morning show at Fox 9, Jason interviewed celebrities including Ewan McGregor, Cher, Will Smith, Arthur Miller, Randy Jackson, and many more. Matheson’s first-day assignment at Fox 9 was to go to Paisley Park to produce a segment with local music legend Prince. In addition, he appeared regularly in many Fox 9 newscasts in various roles.

Jason had a two-weekly segment called “The Must List,” which spotlights the hottest things in entertainment. He is also a renowned event host, including the Regional Emmy Awards, the Miss Minnesota Peagent, and Battle of the Bands.
On January 15, 2009, Jason launched The Weekend Buzz on KMSP Fox 9 and WFTC My29, a half-hour entertainment show with celebrity interviews, movie reviews, and entertainment releases. Jason both anchors and serves as the shows’ Executive Producer.
In September 2009, Matheson was named co-anchor of the newly expanded, FOX 9 weekday morning show called, “The Buzz”. He also co-anchored the Fox 9 Morning News from 4:30-6:00 AM. Matheson left “The Buzz” in February 2013. However, In April 2014, Jason moved to WCCO-TV in the 5:00 PM newscast with his segment, “Trending Now.”
Jason rejoined KMSP Fox 9. In March 2015 to launch “The Jason Show”. This is a one-hour show that discusses all things pop culture that debuted on August 21, 2015.
Moreover, Jason is a radio host at KMTY (107.1) with co-host Alexis Thompson on “The Saturday Night Groove.” The duo was named hosts of “Jason & Alexis” which aired weekdays from 12:00-3:00 p.m. Eventually, they were promoted to mornings, airing 5:30-9:00 AM.

Jason and his biological dad did not have the best relationship since his dad was embarrassed by him. When his dad was on his deathbed, Matheson began to get things more clearly. Jason clearly understood that his father was gay and was not brave enough to deal with it to the point that he was his own son as the uncomfortable mirror.
Matheson’s father died at 49 years old and Jason said that his dad was jealous and sad that his son would not hide his sexual orientation. With time he forgave his father.
Jason’s parents divorced and his mother remarried after some time. She married her second husband Cappy whom she loved until her sta breath. Cappy was diagnosed with stage four cancer and passed on in 2020. Matheson acknowledges that Cappy was like a father to him.
