Randy Meier is an American multiple Emmy Award-winning journalist who is currently working as an evening news anchor at Fox 9, KMSP-TV in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He anchors FOX 9’s 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. news, as well as FOX 9 at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Meier joined the station as the 10 pm anchor while anchoring and reporting on the 5 pm news on September 26, 2011. Previously, he spent three years working as an anchor at MSNBC. Randy attended the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications.
Meier has reported and anchored through most of Minnesota’s biggest stories. Some of her notable stories include the kidnapping and discovery of Jacob Wetterling. Governor Jesse Ventura’s time in the State Capitol and yes, he was, like many, called a media jackal by the governor. In addition, Meier spent weeks covering Minnesota’s floods, fires, and tornados and was on the Iron Range covering the tragic loss of Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone.
Randy also spent years anchoring and reporting in New York for NBC News and MSNBC. He is very active in community and charity events, supporting raising money for cancer research and outreach organizations.
Randy’s broadcasting career has earned him several awards. In 2002, Meier earned an Emmy Award for his work on Oil Fields of Dreams, an investigative report on the environmental impact of oil drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Randy has also earned two Edward R. Murrow Awards and a Page One Award from the Society of Professional Journalists due to Oil Fields of Dreams. At Fox 9 News, Randy earned three Emmys, the 2003 National Headliner Award for Being the Best Newscast, and a National Iris Award.
