Anne Waiguru Biography
Anne Mumbi Waiguru is a Kenyan politician who is currently sitting as the second governor of Kirinyaga county. Waiguru was elected the second governor of Kirinyaga on the Jubilee party ticket. Previously, Ann served as the first Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Devolution and Planning.
Ann was born On April 16, 1972, on the slopes of Mt. Kenya, precisely Gichugu, Kirinyaga County. She attended Nairobi river primary school and later joined Precious blood Secondary where she sat for her O-Levels exams.
Waiguru then joined Moi forces academy where she sat for her A-levels exams. She passed well and later joined Egerton University for her undergraduate degree in agriculture and home economics.
After her graduation from Egerton University, Ann worked with Transparency International as an intern and research assistant. Her next move landed her at the gates of the Kenya Leadership Institute and later joined the University of Nairobi for a Master’s Degree in Economics. At this stage, Mumbi specialized in public finance, financial management systems, public service reform, capacity building, and governance.

Taking to her career, Anne started off in the public service where she provided technical assistance to the public service secretariat in what was then called the cabinet office. Her dedication and hard work landed her yet another great role in the government. This was now as the Head of Governance and the national stimulus program at the National Treasury.
At the same time, Mumbi had a different role at the Public Procurement Oversight Authority and the Women Enterprise Fund. She was also the director of the Integrated Financial Management and Information System (IFMIS). Thanks to her excellent stewardship that the program won several awards. In addition, this saw the then president, Mwai Kibaki award her with an Order Grand Warrior award for her superb job in the Implementation of IFMIS.
Her thirst for politics became evident in 2016 when she registered as a TNA member in preparation for the 2017 elections. She vied for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat under the TNA umbrella. Lucky her that she had the full support of her party leaders; Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto.

Later on, in 2017 Waiguru won the gubernatorial seat of Kirinyaga county through a Jubilee ticket becoming the first woman governor in the county and one of the three women governors in Kenya.
While holding the Kirinyaga county office Waiguru has come up with programs aimed at empowering youths and women in Kirinyaga county by enabling them to access government projects in the county.
In September Anne Waiguru was asked by the director of public prosecution to record a statement in regards to the disappearance of 791 million shillings from the National Youth Service which was under a department she manned.
However, she was later cleared of these allegations by the Ethics and anti-corruption commission of Kenya(EACC). This was not the end of it all. Just like any other female leader, it has never been easy for Ann. Every now and then, controversial allegations are bestowed on her. May it be corruption, social life, wealth, friends, mention them. Thanks to her steadfast and firm stand, she has always managed all these hurdles.
On June 9, 2020, a group of the Kirinyaga Members of County Assembly (MCAs) had a motion against her for the allegations of abuse of power. Later in the day, they succeeded in the impeachment. However, she has moved to the Supreme Court to challenge her impeachment.
