Carole Simpson Biography
Carole Simpson is an American journalist, news anchor, author, and professor. She is the most popular African American woman who was the first to lead a national network newscast in Chicago. She is also a three times Emmy Award winner.
Additionally, her journalism career began on the radio at WCFL based in Chicago, Illinois. In 1982, she worked at ABC News where she served as a weekend anchor and World News Tonight. Also, she was the first woman in 1992 to moderate a presidential debate. This debate was between George Bush, Bill Clinton, and Ross Perot which was held in Richmond, Virginia. Also, she was awarded the Journalist of the Year award by the National Association of Black Journalists.
Moreover, she was on the Board of Trustees of a subsidiary of the Radio Television Digital News Association, Radio Television Digital News Foundation. Later, she developed the Carole Simpson Scholarship which is awarded annually. It is awarded to encourage and assist minority students in overcoming obstacles on their career paths.
Furthermore. she is a senior correspondent who retired from ABC News in 2006. She retired after 24 years of being in the media industry. Carole became Senior leader in residence at Emerson College School of Communication in Boston. She also teaches courses in public affairs reporting and broadcast journalism.
In addition, she attended a local private school in Chicago. After she graduated, she joined the University of Illinois. Moreover, she attended the University of Michigan where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. She graduated from the University in 1962.
