Chris O’Connell Biography
Chris O’Connell is an American journalist who is currently working as an anchor and general assignment reporter for FOX29 Philadelphia since September 2010. He co-anchors the Friday evening newscasts. Chris attended Strath Haven High School. Later on, he graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. He finished a semester overseas in London, working at the ABC News bureau. Following his graduation, he started his career by working at WRTI-FM.
After spending two decades reporting for TV news outlets around the country, Chris moved back home to Philadelphia from Minnesota where he was an anchor and reporter for KSTP in St. Paul. Prior to that, he was a sports anchor and reporter for a decade at Bay News 9 in Tampa, Florida, where he as well hosted a half-hour nightly sports talk show.
Most notably, Chris sharpened his reporting skills at WTVR in Richmond, VA, where he was bureau chief and reporter for two years. Besides an Emmy Award for Outstanding General Assignment Reporting, he has been honored by the Society of Professional Journalism and Associated Press for his reporting work throughout his career.
