Christopher Kane is a Scottish fashion designer who established his name in the industry with his wickedly original ideas and designs. He was born in Scotland but relocated to London in 2000 to study at Central Saint Martins where he completed a foundation course in fine arts along with a bachelor’s and master’s in fashion design.
After his studies, he got a chance to work with big names in the industry like Giles Deacon and Russell Sage. He was noticed by Donatella Versace in 2005 after winning the Lancôme Colour Award. He also won the Harrods Design Award for his MA Graduate collection, consisting of £1,500 and a showpiece window in Harrods from January 24 to March 8, 2006.
In the same year, he started working on his own line and soon opened his own shop with his sister. In February 2007, he stores welcomed his Capsule Collection for Topshop and won the Designer Award of the Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards. Later in December of the same year, he became the New Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.
His menswear collection debuted at the start of 2010 and his previous collection was also showcased on the runway of Lakme Fashion Week in India. In the same year, he won the first ever Vogue Fashion Found of 200, 000 pounds. In addition, he was added to the L20 list, and he was number 45 on the list. Kane quit his partnership with Versace in November 2011.
In 2013, 51% of Christopher Kane was taken over by Pinault-Printemps-Redoute. They had many plans for him and he even ended up winning another award at the British Fashion Awards. Recently, he designed and presented his first line of leather goods.
