Christy McDonald Biography
Christy McDonald is an American Emmy-Award Winning journalist who serves as an anchor and reporter and has covered news in Detroit and Michigan for 25 years. For the past decade, she was Managing Editor and Anchor for WTVS Detroit PBS One Detroit. She created the station’s weekly flagship politics and news show “MiWeek” in 2011.
The show MiWeek later evolved to ” Obe Detroit” in 2017. McDonald took on a huge role during the pandemic and helped create and anchor “One Detroit: Arts & Culture”. She also anchored special coverage for DPTV including documentaries, live news events, and the Mackinac Policy Conference.
Furthermore, she appeared numerous times over the years on the PBS NewsHour and CNN reporting on Michigan politics and Detroit’s financial crisis. Talking about her education she is a graduate of Michigan State University’s James Madison College with a degree in Political Philosophy.
She has also led lively discussions at the Detroit Economic Club. Detroit Policy Conference, Mackinac Policy Conference, International Women’s Day events, and BLM’s CEO Summit. In addition, she co-moderated Gubernatorial debates in 2015 and 2018. McDonald has also appeared on WDET public radio as a guest host/panelist, as well as a featured guest on the radio show “Remarkable Women”.
Besides her work, she is a passionate advocate of charity projects. She is an advocate for colorectal cancer awareness after her husband died of the disease in August 2020. She has also advocated in her late husband’s name with fundraisers from tennis mixers to a night at Comerica Park. Recently in 2022, she received the Barry Berman Memorial Inspiration Award from the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation for her work.
