Laura Brown Biography
Laura Brown is an Australian fashion journalist who is the former editor-in-chief of InStyle magazine and former Features/Special Projects and executive director of Harper’s Bazaar magazine. She is well-learned and she graduated from Charles Sturt University with a Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Communications.
She was born and raised in Australia as an only child. Laura spent the first years of her childhood in Camden and later moved with her mother to Manly after her mother got a divorce from her father. After a while, Laura and her mother moved to North Sydney and she attended Willoughby Girls High School. It was after attending this school that she joined Charles Sturt University.
She then made her career debut at the now-defunct Australian fashion magazine Mode where she was a production editor for two years. At 21, she moved to London for two years where she worked as a freelancer. She even worked as a correspondent for Harper’s Bazaar Australia. While freelancing in London, she paid her own way to Paris where she snuck into fashion shows without credentials.

Laura then returned to Australia where she was employed by Harper’s Bazaar Australia as a features editor. She credits editor-in-chief, Glenda Bailey, as her mentor for her stay at Harper’s Bazaar. For her first cover of InStyle, she used the model Emily Ratajkoski, who first came to performance in 2013 in the video clip of Robin Thicke’s song, “Blurred Lines”.
As of 2022, she hosts a bi-weekly video series called “Dirty Laundry”. In the series, she interviews celebrities in a laundromat and each video reveals personal stories behind her most beloved outfits and accessories. On December 1, 2020, she debuted the InStyle “Ladies First with Laura Brown” podcast, where she talks to trailblazers about historic “firsts” in the industry.
