Dan Ponce Biography
Dan Ponce is an American journalist currently working as an anchor for WGN-T, a radio talk show host on WLS-AM and the founder of the Cappella group Straight No Chaser. He joined WGN-TV in September 2010 as a general assignment reporter. Currently, Dan is an anchor for WGN Morning News from 4-6 am alongside Lauren Jiggetts.
Ponce received his Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and later graduated from Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University with his Master’s degree.
Dan joined WGN-Tv from Chicago’s ABC7 Eyewitness News where he worked as a general assignment reporter. He began his broadcast career in Lansing. Michigan at WILX-Tv where he worked as a reporter and weekend anchor.
During his undergraduate studies, Ponce founded the world-renowned Capella group Straight No Chaser on Atlantic Records. The album Straight No Chaser’s album “Holiday Spirits” went to #1 on iTunes and Amazon.
In 2009, Ponec decided to leave ABC7 and join the group on a full-time basis. The group went on to perform hundreds of concerts throughout the country and record three more albums on the Atlantic Records label. They further had a televised concert series “Live in New York” (produced by WTTW) aired on PBS stations coast to coast.
Later in 2010, Dan came back to his television career and was hired by WGN-TV as a general assignment reporter.
