Di’Ja Biography
Di’Ja [Hadiza Salma Blell] is a renowned Nigerian singer born in Kaduna to a Sierra Leonean Mum and a Nigerian dad, Joe Blell. She has lived in several countries including Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and the United States. However, most of her fans only know her by the stage name, Di’Ja.
At a young age, Di’Ja committed herself to education and acquired a degree in both Biology and Psychology. After getting the latter, she got interested in music. However, her passion for music has some connection with her family as she explains that her mum had an influence on her path through the various CD collections around her during childhood.
Di’Ja started her music career in 2008 and later released her first single “Rock Steady” in 2009 which got nominated for the best RNB single at the Canadian Radio Music Awards in the same year. She took music seriously when a friend, Aman Manhas guided her to sign for a singing competition in Canada, The Beat Music Awards. Since then she has never been loose in the field.
In 2012, she released a few singles including “Dan’Iska (Rudebwoy)”, “Hang On (Ba Damuwa)” and “How Might We Be Friends”. Her expansion to Mavin Records was on February 14, 2014, by Don Jazzy, the CEO. DI’Ja’s official single under Mavin Records was similarly released on February 14, 2014. The song, “Yaro”, uses both Hausa and Krio languages to pay tribute to her Nigerian and Sierra Leonean roots.
