Eliud Kipchoge Biography
Eliud Kipchoge is a Kenyan marathoner who holds a world record as the first human to run under two hours in a marathon. He is the world record holder in the marathon having set a time of 2:01:39 as of September 16, 2018. This was a race in the 2018 Berlin Marathon where he broke the previous world record by 1 Minute, 18 seconds.
Kipchoge was born on 5th November 1984 in Nandi County, Kenya. He was raised by a single mother as the last born to a family of four. Kipchoge’s career took a start in the year 2003. This is when he participated in the junior race at the IAAF World Cross country championship setting a world junior record for the 5000 M race.

Over several years he participated in World Championships where he won several medals including silver medals from 2007 to 2010. Kipchoge switched to road running in the year 2012 where he made the second-fastest half-marathon debut. From there he went on to win the 2013 Hamburg marathon in a course record time.
His breakthrough as a marathoner was realized at the Chicago marathon in 2014 where he made his breakthrough as a marathon runner. From this experience and debut, Eliud went on to participate in a series of races between 2016 and 2019. Kipchoge made a record by winning the London marathon four times and also he won the Olympic marathon in 2016.
Kipchoge’s recent achievement is where he ran in under two hours in 2019 in the Ineos challenge, where he was recognized by the Guinness book of records as the first man to run under two hours.
But this event was not recognized as a marathon since it was not an open competition and standard competition rules were not taken into consideration.
