Erika Martin Biography
Erika Martin is an American Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, TV Host, Environmental Speaker, Storm Chaser, and Sustainability Officer currently working at ABC 4 News as a meteorologist. She is extremely happy to be a part of the diverse ABC 4 News team and loves being part of the Good Morning Utah team. Martin is the first Latina Meteorologist in the market.
Erica has forecasting experience from the Mid-Atlantic to New England, having worked at WTNH, NBC Philadelphia, and WCBS New York. She’s also forecasted for KPIX and KCOY/KYET in California. Moreover, he’s appeared on Good Morning America as a stand-in and on World News Tonight to cover extreme weather.
Erika was also a chief meteorologist at WTNH in New Haven, CT, where she says the two most difficult storms she had to cover from start to finish were Superstorm Sandy and the Blizzard of 2013. She’s retained a copy of Sandy’s very first ECMWF model run. She’s also covered major disasters like Tropical Storm Irene, the 2011 Halloween Nor’easter, the Rim Wildfire in 2013, the record-setting Boston snowfall of 2015, Hurricanes Irma, and Harvey, as well as Maria, and several tornadoes.

He was also an intern at NWS Oxnard, a Skywarn Spotter for The National Weather Service, and a member of The American Meteorological Society, The National Weather Association, The American Meteorological Society, The American Geosciences Institute, The United States Green Building Council, The Water Environment Federation, Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, and The National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
In her spare time, she volunteers with local environmental and animal organizations, spends time with her husband, Jay, and their puppy, Chloe, practices yoga, does interior design, and also uses Zoom to communicate with friends and family.
Martin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and an MBA in Energy and Sustainability. Five years ago, she wanted to change her master’s degree from an M.S. Due to subtle weather changes in operational meteorology at M.B.A. in energy and sustainability, the M.B.A. observed a result of macroscopic structures.
During her graduate studies, she concentrated on cognitive environmental adaptation, resulting in the development of two eco-tech products for which she holds patents. However, she avoided going back to school for a degree in science. She recently explored the opportunity with an administrator at the University of Utah.
