Tommy Lister was born with a detached and deformed retina in his right eye making him partially blind. However, he made his debut film in 1985 in the Runway Train. He also worked in the film 8 Million Ways to Die in 1985, Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987, and No Holds Barred in 1989. He gained his popularity in the film industry after playing the role of Debo in Friday and its Sequel Next Friday with famous celebrities like Ice Cube and Chris Tucker.

However, on December 10th, 2020 at the age of 62, Tommy passed away in Marina del Rey, California on Thursday before 3 p.m. He was previously diagnosed with COVID-19 and overcame the illness. But later in December, he was facing difficulties in breathing and he had to cancel shooting his film.
