Fred Armisen Biography
Fred Armisen is a famous American actor, comedian, writer, producer and musician who gained fame as a co-creator of the IFC sketch comedy series called Portlandia. He also worked on the famous Documentary New alongside Bill Hader and Seth Meyers also on IFC. Fred also made various appearances on Saturday Night Live from 2002 to 2013. In 2023, Fred made an SNL comeback after collaborating with co-star Jenna Ortega by recreating The Parent Trap Sketch on the show. Fred’s most recent roles are in films and TV series like Wednesday (2022), Easy A, Forever and Portlandia.
Armisen was born in the suburbs of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA to a working-class family of Hispanic-German -Korean ethnicity. He also spent the majority of his early teenage life in Brazil before his parents finally settled in Long Island, New York. Fred attended and finished his high school education in New York where he schooled together with former SNL star Jim Breuer. He then graduated with a degree in theatre arts from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, New York. Additionally, Fred grew up thinking that his paternal family is of Japanese ancestry. However, his paternal grandfather, Ehara Masami was born and raised in the small town of Ulsan, Korea before moving to Germany.
Fred first began his career as a drummer for a local band based in Valley, Stream, New York back in 1984. He then moved to Chicago after the band parted ways in 1988. Fred landed a gig to play drums with the Blue Man Group. He was able to write and produce three albums for the band. He is still an active musician who recently performed at the 2021 Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island. Fred balanced his music career by trying out his luck in television and film.
He did various appearances as Andy Kaufman’s impression on the Late Night show with Conan O’Brien which earned him commercial success.
