Freddie Kitchens is a popular American football coach currently serving as the tight ends coach for the New York Giants of the NFL. Previously, he served as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Regarding his education, Kitchens went to Etowah High School. Later on, he joined the University of Alabama. He played for the university’s football team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, from 1993 to 1998.
Besides his playing college career, Freddie became an assistant coach for several college teams before eventually landing his first job in the NFL. In 2006, he joined the Dallas Cowboys as a tight ends coach. The following year, in 2007, he joined the coaching staff of the Arizona Cardinals. He worked there for 11 years and coached multiple positions, including tight ends, quarterbacks, and running backs.
Kitchen left the Cardinals in 2018 and joined the Cleveland Browns. Moreover, on October 29, 2018, the Browns fired Hue Jackson, the head coach, and Todd Haley, the offensive coordinator. Freddie replaced Todd Haley as the offensive coordinator. The Browns improved remarkably and finished the season strongly. This led the Kitchens to get praise for coaching Baker Mayfield and improving Brown’s offense.
Kitchens became the head coach of the Cleveland Browns on January 12, 2019. However, his first game was a loss to the Tennessee Titans. Due to the shaky start to his career as head coach, he was fired by the Browns in December 2019 after just one season as head coach. However, in January 2020, Freddie was hired by the New York Giants as their tight ends coach.
