Garrett Haake Biography
Garrett Haake is an American journalist who is currently working as a Washington news correspondent for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Prior to this, he covered everything from Congress and the White House to campaigns and hurricanes for MSNBC and NBC News programs.
Born in the United States, Haake attended Kelvin High School and graduated in the class of 2003. Later on, he attended Southern Methodist University where he graduated earning a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.
He began his career as a desk assistant at NBC Nightly News in 2008. Prior to joining MSNBC in May 2017, he was a reporter and fill-in anchor at KSHB-TV. He also worked as an embedded reporter on the 2012 presidential campaign for NBC News before joining KSHB-TV.
Garrette covered everything from politics and scandal to crime and weather. In the fall of 2014, he traveled to Kandahar, where he reported and shot an hour-long documentary about the end of United States involvement in the war in Afghanistan. Furthermore, he covered Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, in 2012 for 18 months, and reported from roughly 36 states.
He is a 2-time regional Emmy winner, for environmental and documentary reporting. On May 31, 2020, while reporting from Washington, D.C. during protests near the White House caused by the death of George Floyd. He could be heard cursing after being hit with what he said was a projectile of some sort, such as a rubber bullet.
