Giada De Laurentiis is an American chef, author, and television personality of Italian descent. She was the host of Food Network’s “Giada at Home.” De Laurentiis also contributes to and co-hosts NBC’s Today show on a regular basis. De Laurentiis is also the founder of GDL Foods, a catering company, and a Daytime Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Lifestyle Host and a Gracie Award winner for Best Television Host.

She was born and raised in Rome, Italy. As a child, Giada found herself in the family’s kitchen and spent a great deal of time at her grandfather’s restaurant, the DDL Food show. De Laurentiis attended and graduated from Marymount High School in Los Angeles. Later on, she enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles, and received a Bachelor’s degree in social anthropology in 1996. She also attended Le Cordon Bleu in France and specialized in cuisine and pastry.

After Giada completed her studies in France, she returned to the United States and became a professional chef, working with several Los Angeles restaurants. Later on, she worked as a food stylist and was contacted by the Food Network after styling a piece in Food and Wine magazine in 2002. On April 5, 2003, her Food Network data cooking show, Everyday Italian, premiered. In October 2005, De Laurentiis also began hosting Behind the Bash, a program that examines the catering process behind big event extravaganzas.

Giada’s Weekend Getaways, her third show, premiered on Food Network in January 2007. She visits her favorite local culinary spots in this show as she travels to a highlighted location. In addition, in June 2007, she hosted Giada in Paradise, a two-part Food Network special set in Santorini, Greece, and Capri, Italy. She was also featured on the third season of Next Food Network Star as a guest judge.

Academia Barilla, an Italian gourmet label, was founded by De Laurentiis and the Barilla Group in 2008. It was Barilla’s first foray into the gourmet celebrity market. Giada was a judge on Food Network Star with chef Bobby Flay during the seventh season, and in the eighth season, she took on a new role as team leader of five cooks fighting against Bobby Flay’s and Alton Brown’s teams. She also released a brand of kitchen equipment exclusively for Target in early 2010. In the same year, she was voted #6 on CafeMom’s annual Sexiest Moms Alive list.

In addition, she debuted GAIDI, her first restaurant, inside The Cromwell in Las Vegas, Nevada, in July 2014. “Lemon spaghetti, chicken cacciatore, marsala herb chicken meatballs, rosemary focaccia, lemon flatbread, and vegetable Bolognese rigatoni,” according to the GIADA menu, which also includes family-style, vegan, and gluten-free options, as well as an antipasto station.

De Laurentiis voiced Gelata in the US version of the Tinker Bell special Pixie Hellow Bake Off in 2014, and in the 2018 film Scooby-Doo! and the Gourmet Ghost, she voiced herself. De Laurentiis’ Food Network series “Giada Entertains” won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Culinary Series on June 26, 2020, and she also won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Culinary Host on the same day. De Laurentiis also starred in a new Hyundai Tucson TV commercial in 2021 to promote the vehicle.

Giada has three restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip. She opened her first restaurant, Giada, in May 2014 and her second restaurant, Pronto by Giada, in early 2018. She opened her third restaurant in May 2018, GDL Italian by Giada, in the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, Maryland.

Furthermore, following their parents’ untimely divorce, the three siblings migrated to Southern California together.
