Guy Penrod Biography
Guy Penrod is an American gospel music singer, actor, and record producer best known for his service as the lead singer of the Gaither Vocal Band from 1994 until 2008. He is also known for his single, “The Old Rugged Cross Made the Difference.”
Penrod went to school at Hobbs High School. While in high school, Guy recorded his first album and sang all four parts. He then went to study at Liberty University and graduated. He began working as a studio session singer, doing backup vocals for singers such as Amy Grant, Carman, Garth Brooks, and Michael W. Smith.
Additionally, Guy was a member of the Christ Church Choir. He linked with Bill Gaither at a studio session and joined the Band. In addition, Guy was also a major contributor to almost a dozen albums released under the Bill Gaither Vocal Band moniker. Penrod became globally recognized for his robust vocals and broad singing range in 1994.
Additionally, he performed for the grand opening of Jerry Falwell’s new Thomas Road Baptist Church a 6,000-seat sanctuary. Penrod also received a Grammy Award for his work on the “Lovin Life” project in 2006.
